Google Announce Panda 3.9 Refresh

Having only just recovered from the panic that the latest wave of link warnings brought, webmasters are facing a new challenge today as Google rolled out its Panda 3.9 refresh. Algorithm refreshes occur routinely which can noticeably affect search results. Unlike previous algorithm updates, Google insists this latest refresh has only impacted 1% of search results.

 Panda Refresh Announcement

What is Panda?

The Panda algorithm was designed to lower the rank of spammy websites and reward high quality websites by putting them nearer the top of search results. Panda is routinely refreshed as the algorithm is updated, causing further sites to suffer drops in rankings and traffic.

Will I Be Affected?

Although reports indicate little has changed as yet, top SEOs are speculating that, similar to previous updates, it could take a few days before anyone sees a noticeable difference. Panda measures the quality of a site on good content, trustworthiness, speed as well as other factors. If your website is lacking in these areas or is full of thin, keyword-stuffed content that is of little relevance to your readers, you are likely to be affected.

How Can I Protect My Site?

Industry professionals are speculating that a Penguin refresh be on the horizon, so what can webmasters do to avoid being penalised by algorithmic changes?

• Regularly Review & Analyse Your Site
• Write Unique Content
• Don’t Over-Optimise Content
• Crack Down on Duplication
