Google recently announced that it wants to speed up the internet and make pages load quickly and efficiently, where possible giving the end user a surfing experience that is an instantaneous as “flipping through the pages of a glossy magazine”.
From a search engine optimisation (SEO) perspective there are possible implications if you start considering some of the other Google developments such as the
Caffeine algorithm update and the introduction of real time search.
As a site owner it is going to be ever more important to be fully optimised to compete for high search rankings. Bloated and slow loading pages will have to be a thing of the past if you want to be indexed well by Google.
To achieve higher speeds Google has launched the Speed – an add-on for developers to check page load speed, slim down heavy javascript and other known issues that Google wants to trim down on.
Google states that it the internet is currently too slow as websites “do not follow best practices in web development and are unnecessary slow” and that “we believe we all need to work together as a community to address all the factors that keep the internet slow.”
We are reading those messages proactively and believe that in the near future Google may bypass indexing websites that are slow. It is now imperative to start thinking about how you can optimise your website and be prepared for changes as they start to roll out. Factor in real time search and you need to make your website fast so that Google and others give you high search engine positioning.
