Consistent reports by comScore show that online jewellery sales experience significant seasonal growth that peaks most at Christmas.
In the UK, visitor traffic to Jewellery/Luxury Goods/Accessories sites increased by 26% when comparing December to November 2008. In 2007, the same trend was also identified with a smaller though not insignificant rise.
The above stats should come as no surprise to online (and retail) jewellers. The jewellery industry is very much affected by seasonality… Christmas being the peak period with Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day being two other occasions when sales are high.
What the above stats show however, is that both emerging and existing jewellery e-commerce sites need to be thinking ahead of these periods, particularly if they want to capitalise on sales.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is not an immediate result but a process that requires a build up period that develops web content, builds links and optimises your website.
