Online medical products - growing sales but how to compete?

This article looks at a couple of recent trends highlighting the need for companies selling online medical products to have a high internet visibility. Doubtless there may be other good trends but these struck me as being key and current.

An article on the radio today spoke of the growing older population in the UK and the increasing number of those cared for at home. From that topic the home care issue was discussed and statistics aired showed that an increasing number of people are cared for at home, whether they are old or young.

As a consequence of this there are a growing number of online medical products sites mushrooming… putting aside the nefarious medical products we all get spammed by, most are there to provide a service.

Add to the equation growing internet skills and adoption by all ages and the need to have high web visibility becomes increasingly clear.

A final consideration to add to this is the economic downturn.

Mix this all up and you have an internet wise population needing medical products at more competitive prices than the high street. The ground for online medical products is clear to see but competition is high.

How best to compete online

As mentioned above, online medical products are increasing significantly. I’ve argued the case using some basic trends but as stated there are countless other factors driving this sector up.

To compete effectively one should:-

  • increase their online presence through an effective search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign such as link building, instant traffic, content writing, M-VAP. All of which The WebMarketing Group can cater for
  • provide a wealth of product information. Research shows that online customers are now experts at searching for products and product information. Do not leave any questions unanswered
  • look at why visitors do not convert to customers. Try subtle site design tweaks to drive up sales through strategies such as multivariate analysis
  • transfer “brick and mortar” savings to customers who look online for savings
  • make sure delivery terms and conditions are prominent
  • make your site human, add telephone contact options as a must
  • entice customers to spend that little more if you can waiver delivery costs
  • use long tail SEO as research also shows that people are using longer keyword searches. Move away from the highly competitive “vanity” keywords
  • make sure your online presence is reputable and complies with all legal compliance, do not offer medical advice unless you are authorised to do so
