For a while now, the Facebook ‘like’ button has applied and appreciated around the world. No matter what language you speak, whatever corner of the globe you’re from, ‘liking’ something on Facebook is the universal way of giving something a big thumbs up. Who needs words when we have something as international as the like button?
We all know that likes and shares can influence rankings, and just as we’re getting comfortable with promoting our content to gain likes, the Facebook team are about to throw a few more exciting buttons into the mix.
New Buttons from Facebook!
Facebook will be introducing the crowds at the f8 Facebook Developer Conference to the up and coming buttons. The latest additions will include ‘read’, ‘watched’ and ‘listened’ so that Facebook users can be more specific about how they’ve enjoyed a certain piece of content.
With options to like, read, watch and listen, Facebook users can be very specific about their appreciation towards User Generated Content, and it will be very exciting to see how these brand new buttons will affect rankings and website SEO.
There have also been talks about a ‘want’ button so that people can really make their feelings clear about new products shared on Facebook. The ‘want’ button could improve the marketing platform for e-commerce businesses on the social networking site.
The Biggest Step in Socialising the Net?
According to Search Engine Journal, an anonymous Facebook source revealed the following: “This is really about extending its sharing tools and influence by a factor of 10. Facebook has talked about socializing the Internet, but this is actually the biggest step to doing it.” (Source:www.searchenginejournal.com)
It’s still not clear just how these buttons will be used in terms of collecting data. How will they affect rankings? Can they pass on authority? There’s a still a lot more to be revealed from the Facebook team, so we will just have to wait and see.
