While Facebook has reached the biggest milestone with some 250mn users worldwide, Twitter is becoming the most popular marketing social media channel for many companies.
A recent study by eMarketer showed that of the US Fortune 100 companies – the largest companies ranked by sales – a vast majority are using Twitter and more so than Facebook.
The study found that:-
- 54% were on Twitter
- 32% have a corporate blog
- 29% have a Facebook account
The report also found that these large companies were using social media, particularly Twitter for marketing promotions, company news, customer service and employee recruitment.

Email newsletters are increasingly using social bookmarking functionality such follow us on Twitter, connect with us on LinkedIn and become a fan on Facebook. Many corporate communications via email are adding these to their signature files and can help with SMO and viral, word-of-mouth communication.
