Social media optimisation (SMO) - why, what for, how & what do I get back?

Here at The WebMarketing Group we now offer social media optimisation (SMO) as a highly effective means to grow your online business, direct traffic and increase your online visibility.

Launching into social media optimisation (SMO) has many benefits and is increasingly becoming a necessity for the vast majority companies, their products and their brands. With or without your consent or knowledge, social media is already talking about you so engagement is key.

Social media – integrated or standalone?

As you work through this article it will hopefully become clear that social media engagement and optimisation is a necessity and you should also be able to clearly see where it can be applied within your business.

Now you will need to consider how you launch into social media. Mzinga’s report found that:-
  • 61% integrated social media within/to their website
This echoes our findings here at The WebMarketing Group, we are finding that the majority of our clients want social media optimisation to focus on their websites and to target traffic to their website.

Social media – what do I get back?

We’ve dealt with the why use social media, what to use social media for, how to use social media and now we need to deal with what do I gain from social media.

As discussed in the opening part of this article, one of the key obstacles to social media optimisation (SMO) is that ROI is typically hard to monitor and track. Social media channels like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn have few measurement options to identify traffic, interest and interaction.

Here at The WebMarketing Group we’ve recognised that measuring social media ROI is critical. Mzinga found that 84% did not measure social media ROI so we are keen to pass on measurement tools to our clients. We make sure we set up clear analytics to measure traffic among other factors.
