The Latest on Google Plus: The Google+1 Button

Roll out the red carpet.  The Google+1 social feature has finally arrived.  This long awaited feature allows social networkers to post interesting content to their Google+ account using the Google+1 button, subsequently sharing it with all of their contacts.  Of course, the Google+ button itself has already been knocking about these parts for fair bit of time now.  But until now, it was very little more than a redundant light switch.

Before the social network, +1 buttons were spread across the web like wildfire.  However, the flames didn’t last.  Even with substantial encouragement, the blaze just did not catch on.  It seemed that nobody wanted to know, so now we wait to see just how big it could be when it’s rolled out to all the social network account holders.

Social Déjà Vu, Anyone?

It sounds remarkably like another button we already know, doesn’t it? The Facebook ‘like’ button – which is a superb measure for how popular, how well-written, and just how inspiring your content is – has long been around for social addicts to enjoy.

Not quite live yet, the Google+1 will be rolling out to Google+ social networkers in the next few days. The Google+1 beta tester is available for those who are too anxious to wait, and this could be another strike at Facebook, the rival.

But our question is how the Google+1 button will affect search engine rankings?  And when will this begin?  There’s no doubt that the +1 feature, just like Tweets and Facebook shares, will be impacting on rankings, but we just don’t know how and to what extent.

Google Plus vs. Facebook

It’s hard to predict how the battle will end between the two social sites.  The first social networking attempt for Google pretty much fell flat on its face, but now the search engine has upped its game.  Find out about more of the Google Plus features here

Our very own in-house link builder, James has tried and tested the beta site for himself and has given it two thumbs up.
As Goolgle+ rolls out the +1 button into full swing over the coming days, we’ll just have to watch this space.....
