Nobody said it was a man’s world, but there are definitely fewer females flying the kite for SEO. Perhaps, it’s the sort of industry which appears too technical and mundane to raise a woman’s temperature, but there’s still time for SEO to make its mark in recruitment.
There’s so much to learn in the world of search marketing – it’s a fast game, perfect for ladies who like to be kept on their toes. And we assure you, it’s a complicated yet thought-provoking industry which requires a woman’s touch.
To our liberation, there are a number of female SEOs out there doing us proud, and here at WMG, we think it’s about time we showed our appreciation.
Just a Handful of Top SEO Women
In no particular order, here are a few of our favourite female SEOs. You can connect with them on Twitter to get the latest scoop into their SEO tips, their thoughts and their lives.....
Vanessa Fox - @vanessafox
Vanessa is famous for creating Google Webmaster Central, and as a search engine specialist with almost two decades of experience, she can offer her expert knowledge in her latest book, ‘Marketing in the Age of Google: Your Online Strategy IS Your Business Strategy’.
This Nine By Blue founder is an inspiration to The WebMarketing Group because she doesn’t believe in chasing algorithms; instead she believes in building products and content which will stand the test of time and help to improve user experience.
It’s Vanessa’s mission to transform the state of search engine optimisation, and here at WMG, we’d like to follow suit.
Heather Lloyd-Martin - @heatherlloyd
She is described as a “fast talking, fiery redhead” and her strength filters through to her online business, SEO Copywriting. But more importantly, she is a self-confessed SEO geek and that’s why we think she’s great!
She is recognised worldwide as a skilled SEO copywriter and search marketing expert, and like Vanessa Fox, she’s recently been nominated for the Top Woman in SEO 2012 Award. We wish her the best of luck!
Nichola Stott – @nicholastott
Nichola is the director of search and social media agency, The Media Flow, and she also has a history of search experience working at Yahoo!.
We love Nichola because she’s a keen blogger, blogging away for State of Search, Search Engine Watch and all-female blog, SEO Chicks
Ann Smarty - @seosmarty
We’ve been following this smarty pants for a while now, and we even took or hats off to her in our Top 20 SEO Twitter People to Follow post a few months back.
She’s an SEO consultant with an enviable social media following, and because her blog posts are very content-focused (and we all know that content is King), we’re always checking in to read her next piece of advice.
Julie Joyce - @juliejoyce
Julie is the director of operations & co-founder of Link Fish Media and she has a background in programming, falling in love with search marking in 2002.
She managed a team of search specialists for a small IT firm, before taking the leap to start Link Fish Media.
Donna Fontenot - @dazzlindonna
Web developer, founder of SEO Scoop, blogger at Search Engine People and Search Engine Roundtable forum moderator, business coach, SEO consultant just to name a few…..
Donna has her fingers in all the SEO pies, and we admire her because she just can’t seem to get enough to the web. Her insatiable appetite for search marketing makes us all want to work harder.
Her own blog is DazzlinDonna.com, where she shares her passion for making a living online.
Jennifer Lopez- @Jennita
Not to be confused with the Hollywood singer / actress, Jennifer Sable Lopez, otherwise known as Jennita, is the queen of social media. We’ve soaked up in many of her social marketing articles on SEOMoz and we think she’s a pretty cool person to follow on Twitter too.
We previously named her as an “SEO underdog” because we don’t feel that enough people know about her work yet. But don’t worry, Jennita – we’re spreading the word!
Jill Whalen - @jillwhalen
Jill has been on the SEO scene since the 1990s, so this girl has been around the SEO block – which is why you will see many of her articles, videos and blog posts around the internet.
She is the CEO of High Rankings, one of the longest running and most established SEO agencies around. There’s no stone unturned with Jill and her many years of experience shines through in everything that she does.
The WebMarketingGroup Women - @webmktinggroup
Here are just a few of the top SEO women in our eyes. But the truth is, there are many more out there, including some of the unknown SEO gals here at The WebMarketing Group.
We have some fiery females across all departments, and hope that you’ll follow us on Twitter too!
