Aside from the obvious however, here are other ways that technology has been able to enhance online exhibits.
- As mentioned above, visitors can go through “virtual” exhibit halls—as though they were actually walking inside the actual venue. They can get online brochures (download) and watch actual demonstrations via audio-visual presentations.
- Visitors can download, save and even edit their “exhibit itinerary". They can even transfer it to their handheld devices such as PDAs.
- It is also possible to have a database containing registered visitors. This can cover all vital information about the visitors. It can also be used to follow up on enquiries made at several booths.
- Bulletin boards and discussion groups about the exhibit and its participants are now possible.
- Interactive software where both speakers and attendees can “talk to each other”.
- It now becomes easier to get feedback from the audience via polling facilities. These can be either online (at the website) or through email.
- Virtual discussion rooms. These can simulate the discussions among exhibitors and delegates, just as though they were face-to-face.
As technology moves forward however, it can also be used to improve some areas of the online exhibition experience. These areas can include:
- Visitors being able to “plan” how their visit would be like even before they arrive. This doesn’t just mean looking at a map and tracing your route. It can also allow them to highlight the booths they wish to visit, in the order they wish.
- Identify the booths which are relevant or of prime interest. This avoids having to waste time viewing booths that don’t fit our needs or wants.
- See who will be there. This isn’t just viewing a list of vendors. It means getting to see them in real-time, as the exhibit takes place.
- Being able to visit the websites of participating vendors. This can help us get to know them better even before we meet them.
- Getting pricing and other vital information—even before we attend the exhibit.
- Arranging product demonstrations online. And being able to view them in real-time.
The possibilities are endless. With technological breakthroughs taking place at a very fast pace, it could only be a matter of time before these become a reality. So watch out. These could take place at the next online exhibition you visit.
