Microsoft’s Bing is due to launch a multimillion TV advertising campaign in the UK to try and claw some search engine market share from Google. Bing currently holds less than 5% of the market share in contrast to Google who dominate with approximately 90%.
The campaign will extol Bing’s more visual results compared to Google and will run for over a month until mid-June. Analysts don’t believe there will be any major fluctuation in search engine market share but the longer term will show Bing gaining market share as it has already done in the United States.
Elsewhere, Microsoft have outlined plans to spend $500 million in China in R&D projects this year alone with further investment next year. With Google’s potential withdrawal from China, Bing hopes to capitalise on the search engine market.
