Mozilla has recently suggested that its popular web browser Firefox will have a majority by 2013, overtaking rival Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the preferred browser.
The prediction comes from Mozilla’s Asa Dotzler who has been analysing the usage data for browsers since the year Firefox was released, back in 2004. For a web browser that has only been around for 5 years, this is quite a bold statement from Mozilla, claiming that it could overtake Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
However, according to Asa Dotzler’s findings, Internet Explorer’s market share has fallen from 90% to 70% since 2004, whereas Firefox has increased from nothing to over 25%. If results like these continue to surface then it may well be grim news for IE.
Reports claim that Firefox is the browser of choice for the majority of internet users in Europe, despite the recent security scares which don’t seem to have dented the web browser’s popularity.
