Recent figures from IAB Europe have indicated that European online ad spend grew by 20% in 2008, which equates to £11bn. These figures indicate a greater need for businesses to gain a reputable online presence and drive the traffic to their websites.
Across Europe, there were some interesting results, such as Poland’s emerging online market experiencing a 60% growth taking its value to £216m, with Slovenia’s online ad spend increasing to £16.8m – a substantial growth of 77%.
The online search spend of 2008 had increased by 26% compared with 2007, which shows that there is a healthy increase in the number of people using online search. In addition to this, the figures for other online spend variations are as follows:
- Classified ad spend – an increase of 17.4%
- Display ad spend – an increase of 15.1%
- Email ad spend – an increase of 12.2%
The ad spend for the top 10 European countries accounted for 93% of the total market value for 2008.
