Habitat starts tweeting again - valuable lessons learnt

Habitat has started to use Twitter again for the first time since June.

Habitat suspended Twitter activity back in June after possibly one of the most highlighted cases on how not to use social media.

Back in June, an overenthusiastic intern used the hashtags that were being used to follow the Iranian elections and was accused of spamming the microblogging world by offering the chance to win a £1,000 gift card. At the time it was seen as highly insensitive for Habitat to jump on the Iranian election coverage, effectively piggybacking a democratic conversation to gain following.

Habitat’s latest tweet states “We're back. Sorry it took so long. This time we want to get it right, tell us what you want to hear from us and we'll mark suggestions in our favourites.”

The intern is no longer at Habitat and Habitat’s Twitter account has been cleansed of any historical tweets.

Habitat is one of the most widely used cased studies of how not to use Twitter while the coverage of the Iranian elections is one of the best case studies of Twitter usage.
