Turnover at Harrogate based Web Marketing Group has doubled in the last five years with sales almost topping £1.5 million in 2008. And 2009 sees the local SEO company expanding its web even further with the opening of a new regional base in South Yorkshire later this month.
The Internet specialists secured £500,000 of investment from the South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF) at the end of 2008 to open the new sales office in Sheffield and expand its operations. The Sheffield site adds to the company's existing sales site in Peterborough and its Head Office in Cardale Park, Harrogate. The group employs approximately 55 staff across the existing sites and aims to recruit a further 25 sales staff.
“The Web Marketing Group has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2000,” said Dennis Engel, founder and managing director of the company. “We survived the dotcom bubble bursting in the late 90s and have since established ourselves as one of the top web marketing companies in the UK.”
Despite being a local SEO company, The Web Marketing Group works with over 800 businesses around the UK, helping them increase search traffic to their websites. The company provides link-building, SEO copy writing and website design and development services and prides itself on its talented team of consultants, journalists, web designers and developers.
“Our success is down to the amazing talent the company has recruited and our ability to stay ahead of the game when it comes to the fast-moving world wide web,” Mr Engel added.
According to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Christmas shoppers opted to beat the British weather and stay indoors spending £4.67bn online in December 2008, up 17 percent on 2007, giving e-retailers their best Christmas ever. By contrast, high street sales fell by 1.4 percent. Overall, online sales hit £43.8bn in 2008. And 2009 looks set to continue the trend as the internet increasingly challenges the high street's traditional turf. The IMRG, a membership community for the e-retail industry, predicts by 2020, 90 percent of transactions will either be over the internet or influenced by the internet.
As the credit crunch continues to bite, gaining an edge over competitors is increasingly important. High rankings in the search engines is crucial to achieve a larger share of the marketplace.
Mr Engel said: “Online retailers are bucking the trend as the economy struggles. And companies need well-performing websites to keep up with this trend. Google has taken over the way companies do business. More people are shopping online, socialising online and locating services online, from window cleaners to internet dating.
"When somebody Googles for a product or service, it's our job to make sure your company is in the top ten results.” Mr Engel added: “It's time to get serious about the Web. Driving more traffic to a website has a direct correlation on profit. Internet marketing generates a greater Return on Marketing Investment than many traditional marketing approaches.”
