Despite differing reports of Marks and Spencer’s sales figures, it would seem that they are on the right track when it comes to their online presence. They have just reported a 28% increase in the first quarter of 2009, which is a contrast to the overall number of sales.
Online sales are proving to deliver the most successful results for M&S and they are sure to realise they have great potential here for their online world to grow. Interestingly, the M&S food is not widely available online and there is no grocery delivery to the door like supermarket rivals such as Asda and Tesco. You might think this would hamper their success in the online market but there are many other products available to buy online, such as fashion and furniture. However, if M&S were to launch their full range of foods online, it is likely that it would be a success.
Stuart Rose, the M&S chairman has reportedly commented that they are very pleased with the online growth results.
