Tesco Removes Advertising From Facebook Groups

According to New Media Age, Tesco has today pulled its advertising from Facebook group pages after the brand identity was being displayed alongside inappropriate content. This now means that Tesco will only advertise on the Homepage or profile pages of Facebook to avoid this happening again.

In the current climate, placing ads on top sites is meaning business is booming for many companies that have a high click-through rate. However, for Tesco, questions have to be raised when their ad appears alongside political ads, which could have implications on them if they are thought to promote that party or any other radical views. Dabbling in politics is avoided by top companies, so it seems only fair that Tesco has had to make the decision to remove their ads from Facebook group pages.

Following in Tesco’s footsteps is Vodafone, who have removed their ads from certain Facebook pages too. They are working with the social networking site to ensure better controls are in place.
