Three years ago, Ask Jeeves was dropped and the iconic butler graphic was no more. Now, Jeeves is coming back and it seems this will be a welcomed return by search engine users.
With search engines often feeling a little de-personalised and robotic, Jeeves the butler made searching a much more pleasant experience for many, with the human figure acting as an appealing attribute.
However, Jeeves has been given a makeover by animation company Framestore, which it is hoped will give him a fresh and up-to-date web presence. Based on a character from the PG Wodehouse books, Jeeves is instantly recognisable and the Ask Jeeves search engine function is a popular choice.
The relaunch of Jeeves might help Ask.com’s visitor traffic, but it will still have a lot of work to do if it is to compete with Google’s search engine dominance.
