Google's new technology will allow the search engine to indentify associations and concepts related to the search query that is typed in, which will in turn improve the search results presented on the Google page.

Its all designed to help you find what you need with more tailor-made results. In the past, Google has been criticized for providing search results that simply analyze the keyword rather than the actual meaning. This could put an end to all that.

Google Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, Marissa Mayer, has commented that "Google sees semantic search technology as part of the algorithmic mix, not as a replacement to its traditional keyword-analysis approach". It is important that SEO experts are fully aware of what implications this might have on the work that they are doing.
