A recent report by the NMA suggests that Bing has been condensed for the UK audience, meaning we’re not getting the same benefits as US users. This isn’t to say the UK Bing is bad – its not, but what it doesn’t have is the same ‘oomph’ that the US version has.
Let’s remember that even though the UK hasn’t got the big juicy Bing version yet, Microsoft are more than aware of it – they are reportedly going to give us the full version later in the year, but for frustrated UK users, this just won’t satisfy. The Bing release has been heavily anticipated both here in the UK and in the US and for many, the diluted features that the UK gets could leave a sour taste in the mouth for when a full release comes around later in the year. There is a chance that people in the UK will have given up on it by then, which would be a shame if its due to the fact we haven’t been given what the US has.
Microsoft probably should have reconsidered their ‘slow rollout’ approach before going ahead with it and leaving the UK months behind the US in terms of Bing search engine features. The UK is the second largest search market and many people will feel heavily let down by Microsoft’s rather diluted UK features for Bing.
Nevertheless, there are sure to be those that stick around and choose Bing as their preferred search engine, despite the limited UK features. Microsoft is probably relying on those people to stand behind it in preparation for the full fat-packed launch later in the year. Until then, Google probably doesn’t need to feel threatened about Bing just yet...
