At first it may have appeared that Vodafone UK’s Twitter account was compromised or hacked but it turns out it was the work of a disgruntled employee.
On Friday 5th February, an employee tweeted the short message that read “Is fed up of dirty homo’s and is going after beaver”.
Vodafone have responded by apologising personally to anyone that complained in an attempt to placate the 8,663 followers who immediately received the offensive message.
A Vodafone spokesperson commented that ““It was a severe breach of conduct by staff but we apologise to followers. They will hopefully keep faith and carry on following us.”
Vodafone’s followers have increased by 7% since Friday, by no means an indication that people believe in the comment made, just that in social media, attention by any means can be positive.
