Backlinks are links that point to your website from other sites.
Google backlinks are links that Google has indexed as pointing to your site and you should periodically check the backlinks Google has.
As Google is the largest search engine, it is important to have as many backlinks from Google as possible. Link building is an integral part of an effective search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign. This article looks at how to check for Google backlinks.
Google Backlinks: Information Straight from Google Itself
The best approach to checking Google backlinks is to visit Google itself and use the link: operator to check all backlinks.
In Google, search for link:www.yourwebpage.com replacing www.yourwebpage.com with the actual URL you are wanting to check for backlinks.
The screenshot below shows an example of a Google backlink check.

Google Backlinks: Checking Links Competitors Have
A key goal in promoting your online presence will be to build links to your website. One approach might be to compare the Google backlinks a rival competitor has. Repeat the process above to check the backlinks your competitor has and then focus your link building to try and get a growing number of links.
Google Backlinks: Using Third Party Services
There are numerous service providers who will check the number of Google backlinks. The advantage of these is that you can input several URLs to simultaneously check Google backlinks.
This could be a good starting point if you know the URLs of websites you would like to compare against and typically they will bring back simplified analysis such as the number of backlinks. They won’t always bring back the list of URLs as does the link: operator but could provide a valuable insight.
If for example you compared several URLs, the highest having several thousand backlinks and the lowest hundreds it may be more realistic to focus your link building campaign on the lower scale initially.
