Content Management Problems

There’s just one problem: people don’t seem to be visiting your site. It can’t be your products as your sales are quite good via your regular channels. How would you know if there’s something wrong with your website? And how will you know if you need to use a Web Content Management System?

First of all, why not pay a visit to your own website. While you’re there, try and look for the following:

  • Is it difficult to find what you are looking for? Sometimes, you want to put all the information about your product on your site. You presume that since this is the Internet, you’ve got all the space in the world. Too much information however, can create a mess - and makes the site too crowded.

  • Your content needs to be updated. While you’ve been redesigning the look of the site, you seemed to have overlooked the content. If people see that there is nothing new to check out, they will stop visiting the site.

  • Is there too much of the same thing? This means there are too many articles about just one topic. Or that these articles focus on just one angle. This is especially true for sites that have a lot of contributors.

  • Pages vary. This makes site navigation difficult and tends to confuse viewers.

  • The homepage seems out of place. Even worse, it doesn’t seem to represent the site. The homepage should be like a book cover. It tells in short order what the site is all about. It also gives visitors an idea of what they can expect upon entering the site.

  • The layout is disorganized. Articles don’t contain the appropriate photo, or they are far apart.

  • It is hard to upload content. This is especially important when you outsource your content requirements.

  • It is extremely hard to access links. Users need to click several times just to enter a page containing the information they need.

If you experience some or all of these problems, then stop. It might be time to get a web content management system. A good web content management system will help you resolve these issues as it contains features designed specifically for taking care of such things as data management (even when the content should be updated), design and page generation and even security and access problems. It also makes future website development much easier.

Why not invest in a good web content management system, get people visiting your site more often and sell more products online?
