Here at WMG we are suckers for a great creative campaign and we’re not afraid to admit that we take inspiration from some of the many examples out there in the internet ether. These are just some of our favourites from the week ending 5 May as chosen by Tushar Parmar, Digital PR Strategist.
NON NON NON, Je ne suis pas Le Pen
Today, Greenpeace has unveiled a giant banner at the Eiffel Tower in Paris today, ahead of the second round of the French presidential election between centrist candidate, Emmanuel Macron, and Marine Le Pen of the far right.
It’s a really simple and effective campaign by the NGO which advocates the protection of the natural world, who are clearly opposed to Le Pen winning the election. The stunt has been timed well to coincide with the last day of campaigning. The message draws parallels of the slogans of the French Revolution: Liberté, égalité, Fraternité (liberty, equality, fraternity).
Greenpeace are no strangers to this, having done similar banner-based stunts at the Belgian Grand Prix, sponsored by oil giant, Shell, as well as on other landmarks such as Christ the Redeemer.
Could you ever imagine supporting your football team’s arch rivals? Well, maybe if you’ve got a couple of quid on them. To coincide with the North London derby last Sunday (between arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal) breakdown company hired a hypnotist to trick fans into supporting their rivals.
At half time, a Spurs fan was convinced that he was an Arsenal fan and vice versa. The game finished 2-0 to Spurs, with the Arsenal fan devastated once he comes around to find he was cheering the enemy throughout the match.
The premise of this idea was to project the message that it’s ok to switch your allegiances, in this case between your breakdown recovery service.

Just plane balls
For the past six years, the 28th April is no normal day. It’s now known to the nation as ‘Ed Balls Day’, named after the politician who has gained fame for a social media gaffe (where he tweeted his own name on the now famous date).
Every year people tweet reminders of the grand occasion and recently some companies have been getting onto the back of it. This year, the likes of Virgin Atlantic and the Royal Albert Hall have jumped onto the bandwagon with tweets to mark the momentous occasion and the great man himself even got involved by recreating the iconic moment at the same place it happened:
