Your business is expanding and to achieve further growth, you decide to engage in some Internet marketing. So you set up a website, put in all the information about your product and you’re off. You’ve even put in those “hits counters” which tells you how many visits you get in a day. Great, right?
Well, not quite. You see, for your Internet marketing efforts to be successful, it isn’t enough to simply put up a website and hope people will visit it. Just as you are selling your product or service, you also have to “sell your site”. You have to get people to visit your site. But how?
• Offer free subscription - If you have an online magazine, why not offer visitors a free subscription? Or a free gift upon subscription. You could say that this is available for the first 100 visitors.
• Offer free content - This could mean allowing visitors to reprint your content on their websites, downloaded via PDF.
• Have an interesting online resource guide - An online directory containing links to various digital magazines, websites and the like can help increase site traffic. These links could be references or reviews about the product. Visitors will find these helpful if they are looking to buy one of your products online.
• Offer free tutorials online - Selling a product doesn’t just mean making people buy. It is also about after-sales service. In this case, you could instruct your visitors how to use your product - for first-time users or regulars finding new ways to use it. This could also attract more sales as good customer care is always attractive.
• Have an online lottery - Offer visitors free raffle tickets—for the first 50 for instance. Everyone likes winning something.
• Offer free software - This could be used to view certain sections on your site or for other sites as well.
• Offer free online services which are beneficial to your target market - These could be search engine links (for the researchers) or free proofreading for the writers and students who visit your site for their term paper research.
• Encourage visitors feedback - Most automotive websites, for example, allow users to ask questions or give feedback about the site, their vehicles or their dealer. These are typed into an online form and submitted by simply hitting “submit”. An email will be sent to the visitor containing the answers to their query.
• Free membership - If you run an online club, this will help to heighten interest.
Whatever “trick” you employ to draw in those much-needed hits, just make sure that these are relevant to your website and your company or organization. Otherwise, all your Internet marketing will go to waste and you may find yourself back to square one.
